At the beginning of July we launched a viral video marketing initiative. The rules were simple- make a video that was funny, creative, and demonstrated ChaCha’s usefulness as that of a smart friend. Do it well enough to get thousands of people to vote for you and we’ll give you $5,000 and some other stuff too! Do it slightly less well than the person that wins $5,000, we’ll give you $1,000 or $500.
Watching Movies @ ChaCha HQ
When we launched contest we saw a few videos trickle in one by one. Then the nervousness set in… “what if these ten videos are the only ones we receive?” But then we all had a flashback to college term papers and realized that there would most likely be a flood of videos a couple of days right before the deadline- and that’s exactly what happened. We went from about ten video submissions to over 70 video submissions in under a week. Needless to say- we enjoyed eating popcorn and watching all these videos as they came in.
The videos ranged from the head-scratchingly bizarre, to the really well produced and funny, superheroes, bluegrass songs, princesses in peril, all the way to the existential quandary. After a very tough decision-making process, we ended up with five finalists- chosen because they were the most original, most entertaining, and best represented the variety of uses ChaCha has as your mobile BFF.
