We are at IAB MIXX this week. Its Advertising Week and NYC is full of marketers, advertisers, media mavens and technology providers. There is a ton going on and everyone is buzzing about OMMA, IAB MIXX and the variety of smaller, more niche advertising events. Today at IAB MIXX, Charlie Rose interviewed the editor of Wired Magazine — Chris Anderson. He talked about the new “FREE” and how content providers and publishers are moving from “free with advertising” to a “freemium” model where free is used for sampling. Users are then upsold to premium content that addresses the needs of a specific community — whatever that may be.
Other publishers talked about what premium meant to them as well.
Interesting to see the advertising and content industry on its head, trying to figure out how to hold onto the billions of dollars spent on traditional media. Ideas are bubbling all around us in bars and restaurants and conference rooms as industry leads work on “What’s Next.”
More to come as we talk to more exhibitors and presenters.
